Last Friday was Steve's 24th birthday! Can you believe that? He may look like he is only 17, but he really is 24 now! He went to Walmart a few weeks ago to buy some bullets and they asked him to see his I.D. When the guy saw that he was almost 24 he was like, "Wow, you didn't look that old!" haha. Anyways, he told me that he didn't want anything expensive for his birthday because we are going to be broke here shortly after he gets done interviewing for Optometry schools. So the night before his birthday he asked me what I got him for his birthday and I told him I didn't get him anything since he had said that I shouldn't spend money. He said that he wasn't disappointed, but I could tell that he really was. What he didn't know, was that I had already bought him an Ipod touch! So the next morning when I gave him his Ipod, he was really excited!
The morning after Steve's birthday we ran the Fishlake Relay. It was a 63 mile race starting at Fishlake and ending at the Richfield City Park. It sounded really fun when we all decided to sign up for it, but I don't think any of us knew what we were really getting ourselves into! Our team consisted of Steve, me, Steve's brother and sister Kirk and Emily, Kirk's wife Kelli, and my brother in law Eric. It was fun to hang out with everyone all day long and fun to watch everybody else run their legs of the race, but I'm not going to lie, I pretty much wanted to die while I was running my 2 legs of the race! My first leg of the race wasn't so bad. I had to run 4.7 miles and it was all down hill. I ran it in like 42 minutes which is probably the fastest and most consistent that I have ever run! So that was pretty cool, but my second leg of the race was TERRIBLE! It was 5.85 miles and I'm pretty sure that I only ran like 2.5 maybe 3 miles of it. I was so exhausted physically, and mentally, that I couldn't even get myself to run. I pretty much just wanted to cry the whole time! My awesome team and parents were there to cheer me on though and I'm pretty sure I would have died on the side of the road without them! And a big thanks to Steve and Eric for running/walking with me my last leg of the race. I'm positive that I would have been in tears if you guys wouldn't have been right by my side. Steve on the other hand did awesome! He ran the very first leg of the race at 6:30 in the morning and started us out in 2nd place. His knee started hurting pretty bad during his second leg of the race, but he still ran the whole thing and even passed another runner to keep us in 4th or 5th place. Both of his legs were around 6 miles long each and he ran the whole time!
Having a little fun while Emily was tackling the beast of the race. She had to run a 6.5 mile leg which consisted of 3 miles up the mountain to the summit, and then 3.5 miles back down the mountain. I still feel bad for you Em. I hope you are taking a few days off of running to recover:(
Now that the race is over, I guess I can admit that we did have a fun day. I don't think I will be running again any time soon and when I do, well....I will probably just stick to short distances like 5k's. As for Steve, he says that he would like to run a 10k once his knee stops hurting. Thanks for the fun team "Slow as Cold Tar". I won't feel bad if you don't invite me to run with you any time soon:) haha
nice move on the Ipod surprise! I was sad for him when you said you really didn't get him anything ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteNice job on the relay! What an inspiration to get out and go run :) That would be so awesome if you and Steve end up in the midwest. AJ and I would LOVE to meet up with you if you do! Oh, and happy belated birthday to Steve!
ReplyDeleteGood job running. I love the surprise birthday and your temple trip surprise!!

You were awesome running! I'd have to say that was just a flat out hard race. I had been training all that time and was not up for the challenge. You did as well as any of the rest of us on the 2nd legs so don't beat yourself up. I love the pics of Steve and Eric. I hadn't seen those. I love the blog. Didn't know about it, but I will have to keep checking now.
