We went to Cedar Middle School on Sunday afternoon (5/20) to watch the annular eclipse. It was pretty amazing to see and fortunately for us we only live 15 miles from the "sweet spot". Pretty cool huh?! NASA contacted the mayor of Kanarraville, which is a tiny little town just south of Cedar, like a year ago to the let them know that Kanarraville would be the "sweet spot" for the eclipse. There were tons of people from out of state in Kanarraville on Sunday for the big event! I kind of wanted to venture over there to see all of the crazy people everywhere, but we decided to avoid the madness and just watch it at the middle school. There were even tons of people at the middle school too!
The eclipse lasted for 2 hours, and this was during the first hour while the moon was just starting to cross in front of the sun.
It made a ring of fire when the moon completely lined up perfectly in the center of the sun. It was pretty crazy to see. Everybody at the middle school started cheering and singing Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". It was pretty funny!
Heidi, Eric, Jeter, and Ty met us at the middle school to watch the eclipse.
We had a lot of fun watching the eclipse AND people watching! There were some crazy teenagers sitting in front of us that thought it was cool to stare at the sun without their protective eye wear. haha Oh well maybe they will give Steve some business in the future because they burned their retinas watching the eclipse!;)
